When you dream about a business you need to know what you want to do, how you want to do it, then implement what your dream looks like. Does this happen over night? No! You have to perform specific functions to achieve the end result in starting a home based business. In other words, it all starts with developing a detailed business plan.
Do you wake up in the morning and say Im opening up a home based business today? What ever you do if it is a home based business or a brick and mortar business you have certain tasks you have to accomplish before you open your home business. You just dont turn a key and you have your work from home business, you have to plan for it, as you will see.
Starting a home business! What an awesome task! Everyone, well maybe not everyone has a dream of starting a work at home business. But, for the ones that are energized to do so it is a major undertaking when you work at home. It also can be very rewarding!
How do you plan for your business opportunity? You should do several things; determine what you are going to provide a product, or a service. Do some research pertaining to your product or service? Then you need a mentor to help you plan your home business, this is called a business plan. This plan guides you through the steps of what you have to accomplish in starting a home business. It’s a road map for your business.
If you have tried a home based business before, then you certainly know of the challenges that you need to overcome. What I discovered along the way, there is a company out there that solves one of the biggest problems for individuals trying to build a home based business. A Roadmap to Success Home Based Business by

Have you ever wanted to start a home based business? Do you know how to develop a passive residual income or start a home business? Why do you want a home based business? These are important questions you must ponder and give some thought to. How do I get started or where do I go to learn about all this stuff? If you are reading this, I hope its because you wish to build a peaceful residual income and take control of your life.
From all that I have learned, read and observed over the past 10 years in the network marketing profession, successful people have 3 common traits that they have to build a solid passive residual income.
Those 3 elements are:
(1) A big Why
(2) Heart
(3) Being Coachable
Without those 3 elements as a foundation, everything else doesnt matter in my opinion. You see - those 3 critical traits sets the stage for building a successful home based business and going through the ups and downs of creating a residual income. One must seriously consider their Why because it will require they invest 10-15 hours a week over the next 3 to 5 years minimum if they want a solid home business. If its only for the money, they will not last because money at some point in the future will not be the driving force to building a passive residual income. Your why is your core desire about why you want to invest so much time in a home based business and what is it that you truly want out of life. For example, it could be to have your significant other home with the kids on a full time basis. It could be to have a better quality of life for your family, taking an extra vacation, purchasing a new vehicle or all of the above.
In other words, is your why big enough to push you through those challenging times when your business is not going so well or its late at night and your tired in need of some sleep. Successful people have a big why and are willing to forgo some sleep, invest some extra time away from the family to get the business going. By the way, to have a successful home based business and develop a residual income, you will sacrifice some time with your family. Its simply not possible to work full time, develop a home business and devote the same time to your family. Im not suggesting this will last forever, but your why needs to be important enough that you understand the reason you are doing this home based business. Its because you want a better quality of life.
The second element is you need to truly care about helping others succeed and having a heart. Help enough people get what they want and you will in time achieve your level of success in a home based business. If you are only in this for yourself, good luck. Over the years I have seen many people fail in our business who didnt fully understand the truth in that line. They felt they didnt need the Personal Growth material, all they needed were the mechanics, and the Nuts & Bolts, scripts etc and they would just do it. With a touch of arrogance perhaps they just felt they knew all about that stuff and were above taking the time to learn how to become more every day.
Leaders are readers and understand that nobody is ever finished that journey. That one major quality of all real leaders is that they constantly are working upon themselves to be better and more each day. Remember, this is a people business and you need to invest time in people and develop a relationship over the long term to create a truly successful home based business and have a solid residual income in network marketing.
The third element and perhaps one of the most important is how coachable are you. Our business is a People Business. We are in the business of attracting quality people and helping them enhance their lives by enhancing the lives of others. If you are the type of person that knows it all, good luck again. It doesnt hurt you to let someone else help you be successful in your home based business. I learned this from a very good friend and my coach Cameron Howard. We used to butt heads a lot many years ago and still do some days, but I can truly say without hesitation that I have learned so much from him and am very thankful that he invested time with me. A good coach and mentor will be your roadmap, invest time in you and help you become successful to the best of their abilities.
We must be coachable to attract other people that are also coachable. As we grow into a stronger position of leadership, we develop the skills to coach the coaches to coach the coachable. Everybody is always a Leader-In-Training and remains so.
So, are you coachable? Take a moment and look at the results in your life to date and ponder where you may have been more trainable and thus more successful. Perhaps you have read all those books and feel you know better. If you attract others just like yourself, and you will are they going to succeed with their present attitudes and philosophies? Experience has proven to us that only those that are truly coachable grow into positions of leadership. All leaders are fully aware that they must first be followers and remain open minded to learning more always. Does that describe you?
A good coach and mentor, is about being a friend and creating a relationship, realizing it just takes time. Respect is earned. If we do not invest time in people we will not be successful, thus we will not be able to develop a solid residual income or have a successful and long lasting home based business. The secret is to develop the skill to know who best to invest our time with. People are an intangible thing. It takes time to truly get to know another person and even at that we only know most people somewhat. To further complicate matters, there is no way to know beforehand just who is going to be successful. There is no way to truly be sure if a persons desire to BE Free is so strong that they will go through the obstacles on the path to success. Many people enter our home business with a ton of people handling skills, leadership experience, family needs etc, in short, all that one would think they need to be tremendously successful and they never do a thing. Others, with little experience etc just go out and do it because they want it so bad they will pay the price to learn the skills necessary to succeed.
There is no proven way to measure the Right Stuff of a person until they are actually in the field doing it. There are leading indicators that suggest the potential is there however. These take time to ascertain and become aware of. It cant be done effectively and consistently in a 5 or 10 minute conversation. It just takes time to get to know people and for them to get to know us. If you want a solid home based business and a solid residual income, realize you need to invest time in people, develop respect for each other and be a friend.
All of the skills needed to build a peaceful residual income are learnable. Every single person reading this document can BE another success story and have a solid home based business. Everybody!

Why do people want to be their own boss? There are any number of reasons, but one of the top has to be the opportunity to be in control of your own destiny. You are not dependent on anyone else to provide for you and your family. It is totally up to you. Starting a home based business is one of the most popular ways to put yourself in the position of having that control over your own life. It's not as easy as some would have you believe, but it can give you the freedom and control you desire.
Today the Internet has become the choice for many who want to have their own business. Starting a home based business online is not the difficult part. In fact, the getting started part is probably the easiest step in the whole process. The truly difficult part is the actual operation of your business. Too many people get into an online home based business without putting enough thought into the whole plan. People put more planning into what they are going to wear each day than they do for a business they want to own.
What makes people think that an online business is simply a matter of owning a web site and then waiting for the money to roll in? If starting a home based business was that easy then just about everyone would be doing it. The reality is that people want to be successful in home based business, but they don't want to do the work required to reach that success. It's the lazy man's way to riches. And it doesn't happen! If you are not willing to put in the time, or if you don't have the time, forget about owning your own home based business. It takes work.
Also, if you have none, or very little, online business experience, then starting a home based business will involve time needed to learn about how to run a business. To try and be successful online with any business takes at least a little know-how. And if you don't know how, you better take the time to learn. No one else will do it for you. And don't believe anyone who tells you that they will build your business for you. Think about it. Does that really make sense? You have a business and someone else will build and develop it for you? I don't think so!
Be sure about what you are doing when starting a home based business. Take the time to learn at least a little about online business and how it works. If you think it is automated, you are so very wrong. Any business, to be successful, takes lots of dedication and commitment. If you believe for one minute that because it's an online business and therefore doesn't need your attention, you have been misled. Many people are making money online each day and the numbers are growing. More and more people are purchasing online and it will only continue to grow. You can be a part of this exciting online business world and take control of your own destiny and future. You can be successful.

Finding the Best Home Based Business Opportunity and the economy
The economic contributions that a home based business makes to the North American economy has, until recently been underrated. This is because basic information on the home based business sector has not been collected. But data collected in 1992 changed this view forever as it showed how important the home business industry was to the US economy.
For example, basic information on a business opportunity, such as the major types of business activities conducted in the home; the amount of funds typically needed for a business startup; the ability of home based businesses firms to survive, grow, and find capital; and the net profits of these firms -- has been entirely lacking or based on small samples or anecdotal evidence.
In 1992 the US Small business Administration and the US department of Commerce conducted their first Census of the home based business sector. They conducted a sampling of 125,000 home-based businesses and found the following:
More and more people are deciding to use their home to earn a primary income in a business opportunity.
The home based business sector represents 52 percent of all firms and provides 10% of the total receipts of the economy.
55,000 home based businesses had sales of over $1,000,000
The average receipts of all of the home based business sector was $40,000
About 19 % of the home businesses had employees
44% of all of the business in the home based business sector required less than $5000 startup costs.
One third of all home based business sector used personal funds to start and 46 percent used personal savings.
Home based business owners worked an average of 26-35 hours a week
Over half the home based business sector last for more than 5 years.
Although that data was collected over 15 years ago it is an important milestone to remind us how valuable a resource this sector was and continues to be to the US economy.
