Home Based Business 47
Home based business and technology
Technology has created an unprecedented climate for those of us who want to start a home based business. Three of these I would like to discuss today are: the computer, the internet and the cell phone.
The modern computer is an amazing machine that allows us to perform many home based business functions that before would have required us to do a lot of the work manually or hire a number of extra people to perform the tasks. The computer and its associated software has simplified the tasks of writing a letter, producing a invoice, documenting and organizing business activities, automating the production of year end reports, tracking employee accounts and timesheets, producing and printing advertising material.
The computer and its associated peripherals like the All-in-One office machine which a few short years ago would have consisted of four separate machines. This valuable piece of equipment functions as a Printer, Fax Machine, Scanner, and Photo Copier. It is a compact office work horse. This machine allows the home based business to publish high quality legal documents and communicate them wherever there is a telephone.
The internet whose development depended on the computer allows the home based business owner to market their goods and services world wide. No longer do a home based business have to depend on the local market, their market is the world using internet services. The latest figures show that there are 939 million people that have access to the internet (thats up 160 % from 2000), and thousands more are joining each day. With a world population of 6500 million there will be plenty of new potential customers for the home based business. Thats a great market to target. With the right software program you can send your advertisements to thousands with the click of a button.
The third technology is the cell phone. Now you the home based business owner are never out of touch with your customers. Where ever you go you will be in contact. The cell phone providers are adding new services every day as the internet, computer and cell phone service merge. Surfing the internet, receiving and sending emails to your customers means that your business never shuts down, it is working 24 hours a day seven days a week. Wherever you go your business is working and you have the ability to be in contact with your customers.
Technology has been a great asset to the home based business allowing an individual to market worldwide and compete with the large corporations on a scale not possible only a few short years ago.
