Home Based Business Opportunity – Setting up the Basics
Prior to getting started, you need to do your research about the company you are thinking of partnering up with. Start by going online to Google to do your research. For example, have you checked out the company, the founders/owners, manufacturing, compensation plan, and of course who’s actually involved with the company you are looking at. In other words, have you spoken to the company and some of the leadership from the field prior to getting started. Once you have done that, then its time to write up a comprehensive business plan. Once you have accomplished that, then its time to get to the fundamentals of physically setting up your home based business opportunity.
There is nothing that easy or straight forward of getting organized and setting up your home based business opportunity. I get out my list of things that I need to include when I get started and set up a new business. My physical office is already there, but business wise, there are certain variables that you need to take into consideration, for example:
How much time do you have to give to your business?
Where will your business be based within your home?
How much money will you need/be able to invest?
What equipment will you need?
Will you need to register as self employed?
Will you set up a separate business account?
The big question you need to ask yourself, is wow much time you are able to give to your home based business opportunity? That of course will depend largely on whether you are going to be doing this as a full time venture or part time in addition to your day job. Whichever option you decide on you will need to be disciplined and motivated.
Deciding on a place to run your home based business may be academic if you live in a small house. However it is always advisable to dedicate an area to your work even if you don’t have a separate room available. There is always the possibility of building an office shed in your garden, many people use this option now and you can by a substantial shed at a very reasonable price that is suitable for this purpose.
The amount of money to be invested in your home based business opportunity will depend largely on the type of business venture you choose. However it is important to ensure that you do your homework and find out what sort of an investment will be required over the first 12 months so that you prepare for that eventuality.
What equipment you will need, again, will depend on the business opportunity you choose. However it is more than likely that you will need a computer that can handle the volume of work you are likely to generate. As this can be an expensive piece of equipment it is advisable to ensure that you have something that is adequate for your needs, and that this is included in your list of money to be invested.
Registering as self employed will be different for different parts of the world. In some countries you need to register immediately whereas other countries require that you register once you are making enough money from your home based business to need to pay tax. Check this out with the Business Link department (or similar) in your home town.
Setting up a bank account for a home based business can be expensive. The best advice is to talk to your bank and discuss the options. In the early days you may be able to just have a normal bank account until your business grows.
Whatever you do don’t go into this with your eyes closed and then regret it afterwards. All of the above are important aspects of working from home and being self employed and the business needs to be set up on a firm foundation if it is to survive. Remember a successful home based business is one that has been carefully planned and executed.
